SportMedBC is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Shelaina Anderson to its Board of Directors. Dr Anderson was officially welcomed to the board during the organization’s regular meeting on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. She will be filling the Physician seat, bringing her expertise and passion for sports medicine to SportMedBC’s leadership team.
Dr Shelaina Anderson is a sport and exercise medicine physician (CASEM) and a clinical instructor at the University of British Columbia. She is certified through the American College of Sports Medicine in Performing Arts Medicine. Through her fellowship training at UBC, she obtained additional training in ultrasound-guided therapies, including regenerative medicine techniques (PRP, prolotherapy) and myofascial/soft tissue interventions. She believes that addressing movement patterns is the foundation for recovery and utilizes her life-long experience in athletics and yoga teacher training (200 HR) background to care for patients of all ages and abilities.
Dr Shelaina Anderson’s Impressive Involvement in Sport
Shelaina has an extensive personal artistic background in dance and figure skating and has continued her involvement in these communities through her work as Company Physician for Ballet BC and the Arts Umbrella Professional Dance Program, as well as Chief Medical Officer for Skate Canada events. She is also the Chief Medical Officer for the Women’s National Team, Field Hockey Canada, and a consulting physician for SFU Lacrosse. Her most recent endeavor will be acting as the Vancouver Polyclinic site lead for the upcoming Invictus Games in February 2025.

Dr Anderson’s appointment reaffirms SportMedBC’s commitment to maintaining a strong, multidisciplinary leadership team dedicated to the advancement of sport medicine and science. As she steps into her new role, she will play a key part in shaping the future of SportMedBC’s programs and services.
