The Vancouver Sun Run 2013
The biggest running event in the city is back for its 28th year! The Sun Run is Canada’s largest 10km event, attracting nearly 50,000 participants every year!
SportMedBC and Rockdoc are looking for medical volunteers to help keep the participants safe in what is sure to be a fantastic event! We’re looking for certified individuals ranging from Standard First Aid to EMR’s, athletic therapists, Nurses and MDs to be a part of our team at the finish line and on the course.
We have three distinct areas where we’ll be providing care;
1. The Main Medical tent at the finish line; Here you’ll find participants suffering from EAC (Exercise Associated Collapse), illiness related to weather conditions (heat stroke/hypothermia) , skin conditions and MSK- severe muscle cramps.
2. Aid Stations on the course; There are two aid stations on the 10k course. These typically see MSK injuries and dermatologic ailments such as blisters, chafing & abrasions, jogger’s toe, cuts and abrasions. Each Aid Station will have a senior team member as the supervisor in charge.
3. Non-Emergency Transport Vehicles; We have two NETV’s on course that respond to non-urgent calls and transport non-urgent patients that are injured or can not finish off the course and back to the Main Medical tent at the finish. We need a driver and a responder for each of these two vehicles.
Due to popular demand, all of our student positions have been filled. If you are a medical or nursing student, you are welcomed to register under the credentials in which you are qualified (as First Aid, EMR LPN etc) and we will place you in an appropriate position. However, all our learner roles are now occupied.
Don’t know where you want to be? Don’t stress, our team will place you in the best position for your experience and skill set. Come out and have some fun with us!
