With the Vancouver Sun Run just around the corner, SportMedBC and the Vancouver Sun are featuring some Sun Run InTraining Leaders and Coordinators and their favourite trails and runs.
A bit of twist this week, as former Clinic Coordinator Timberly George contributes.
“As an 8 year-old, I asked the school cross-country running coach if I could join the team. She said “No,” because I wasn’t old enough. I’d have to wait another year to compete, but I was allowed to practice with the squad. It was there in the Semiahmoo trails that my love of running began. Years later as a UBC physiotherapy student, I became involved in the Sun Run InTraining clinics – first as a leader at Kitsilano Community Centre, then as a Clinic Coordinator at Dunbar Community Centre. The participants were fantastic and the experience was amazing!
Although no longer a Clinic Coordinator, I’ve continued to be involved with the Sun Run. Nearly every year since 2002, I’ve volunteered on the medical team for race day. I’m often at the English Bay medical tent. I love to wave and cheer everyone on, keeping my fingers crossed that they do not need my medical services!
I am very fortunate to live so close to Stanley Park and its’ nearly 30 Kilometres of trails and seawall. My favorite trails to run are around Beaver Lake – truly a great place to watch the seasons change throughout the year. The Siwash Rock trail is wonderful as well. The views of the North Shore are beautiful and stopping at the Siwash lookout is a great place to stretch a little before heading down the hill to Third Beach, and then along the seawall towards home!”
