SportMedBC is proud to announce the creation of a new manager position to support the HealthBeat Program.
As the program has grown and evolved, the need for a full-time dedicated staff member to manage its increasing responsibilties became apparent.
Amanda de Faye, who has worked with the ARW program for the last two years as the program coordinator, and more recently the acting program manager covering a maternity leave, will assume the role of HealthBeat Manager.
“Amanda has been an integral part of developing and expanding the HealthBeat program,” says Susan Nguyen, Aboriginal RunWalk Manager. “Her incredible work ethic and dedication to the program has helped several ARW communities reach their goal of healthy living and wellness all across BC.”
“We look forward to having Amanda continue her work with the Aborginal RunWalk team and we are excited for her to start in her new capacity as HealthBeat Manager.”
Introduced in 2011 as part of the Aboriginal RunWalk Program, HealthBeat was developed to help participants learn about personal risk factors for heart disease and diabetes, and how to lower the risk for cardiovascular diseases.
Participants are screened before and after the 13-week ARW training program to identify health improvements as a result of the program and living a healthier lifestyle. In 2017 alone, the HealthBeat Program screened 197 individual from six different communities across the province.
