SportMedBC Celebrates 35 Years at 2017 Annual General Meeting

On Monday October 2nd, members of the sport medicine and sport science community gathered at Fortius Sport & Health for SportMedBC’s 2017 Annual General Meeting. This year was extra special as it marked our 35th anniversary of delivering the Best People, Best Practices and Best Programs in sport medicine and exercise science for British Columbians.

SportMedBC staff presented their program reports as we looked back at 2016-17 and previewed some of the exciting projects we are working on for the coming year. For more detailed information you can read the entire 2016-2017 Annual Report using the link below.

Five director terms expired at the October 2nd AGM with four directors being reelected. We also welcomed Dr. Matthew Wentzell as the newest member of SportMedBC’s Board of Directors. Matt is a Sport Chiropractor practicing in North Vancouver. You can read his full bio here.

Following the AGM, we were joined by Vancouver Whitecap’s President, Bob Lenarduzzi for an interview and Q & A led by our Chairman, Dr. David Cox.

Bob has been involved with the Whitecaps for nearly four decades as a player, coach, general manager, director, and now president. During our conversation we discussed Bob's career, his current involvement with the Whitecaps and how sport medicine has changed since his time as a player.

As we turn the page on our 35th year we would like to extend our gratitude to everyone associated with SportMedBC— the Board of Directors, the management team, the BC Sports community, our countless volunteer leaders and coordinators, and the outstanding community of medical and paramedical practitioners who make up our network. Also, a special thanks to the team at Fortius Sport & Health who helped us play host to an excellent event.
