Over 80 volunteers will be donating their time with the SportMedBC Medical Team for the Vancouuver Sun Run this Sunday.
10 bike crews, 5 medical vans and 4 first aid medical tents will be spread out around the course to ensure the best saftey and medical cover possible for the 55, 000+ runners and walkers expected for the Sun Run.
All medical volunteers are trained first-aiders, and most are also trained athletic therapists, physiotherapists, nurses, ER dotors and paramedics – so for those who might be in need help on the day, you will be in good hands!!
The SportMedBC Medical Volunteers work closely with BC Ambulance, who will also have roving bike crews and ambulances on the course.
Gavin Leung, Coordinator of SportMed Safety for SportMedBC says “thanks to all the volunteers that are keen to come out year after year – this event would not happen without them”.
Over three-quarters of the medical volunteers have provided many years of service. Along with all the event volunteers for the water-stations, clippers at the finish line and those in BC place, there is a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes – make sure to say “thanks” when your volunteer helps you on Sunday.
For more information on the location of the water-stations, medical tents etc along the course, please see the Sun Run 2009 Course Map.
