Ever wondered what it was like to run in six foot of snow?! Fort St John has a group of 8 participants who meet every Saturday morning at the Northern Lights College for their Sun Run InTraining Program. Occasionally when the weather has been very severe, they have only had a few people turn up, but Spring seems to be making a comeback and more runners are coming out regularly now. The clinic leaders – Barb Polehoykie, Kathryn Fairweather and Gord Harris include workshops on topics such as running technique, winter wear and nutrition in the sessions. Grant Spelsberg has also been working behind the scenes during the introduction of the online training and signing up participants and leaders so thanks to Grant as well.
A number of the participants of the clinic are taking part in the ‘Spring Run Off’ this weekend, April 5th. It will include a 5km walk or run (guess your time) as well as a 10km run. There is also a 1km race for kids under 10 years, and 3km for the 11 to 16 year olds. And, to keep the clinic participants motivated they are giving away a trip for two to the Vancouver Sun Run!
So many people are inspired by the Vancouver Sun Run to get active – thanks to all the SportMedBC volunteer leaders all throughout BC who donate their time and endless energy to help others on their way.
