As we get ready for the Vancouver Sun Run, SportMedBC and the Vancouver Sun are featuring some Sun Run InTraining Leaders and Coordinators and their favourite trails and runs.
Ted Rivers is a SportMedBC area coordinator who has been involved with the Sun Run InTraining program for three years.
“It’s wonderful to be a part of a team of such dedicated people,” Rivers says. “It’s also inspiring to see the hundreds of volunteer leaders who assist new and experienced runners and walkers to reach their fitness goals. It truly reminds me why I love to be active and why it’s important to stay healthy, young or old.
My favourite run begins at the University of British Columbia. You make your way through the campus and down to the seawall.
The route begins along Northwest Marine Drive and from there, you work your way down to the water at Spanish Banks. The views are amazing, no matter what the weather is like.
On nice sunny mornings, you can see downtown and the North Shore mountains; on dreary days, you can watch the fog rolling in over the water.
This route is appealing because in the morning, the seawall’s pretty quiet. It’s also a relatively flat route and it’s easy to change the lengths of your run.”
