Concussion Management Workshops

This 2 hour workshop is led by an experienced health care practitioner and focuses on sharing the latest medical and scientific information about brain injuries, concussion management guidelines, sport risk factors and prevention techniques.

The course aims to eliminate the grey areas around concussions, making it as black and white as possible. The workshop addresses the key challenges of concussions: when to suspect a concussion, how to manage a concussed athlete and finally, addresses the issue of how to return to play safely.

Participants will review the signs and symptoms associated with concussions, on-field assessment techniques, including the use of the Concussion Recognition Tool 5, the SCAT5 tool and a review of ‘red flags’.  The roles of the athlete, parent, coach and health care practitioner in concussion management are tackled.

There is also a section of the workshop dedicated to concussion prevention strategies. An up to date list of valuable free resources is provided. The workshop will ensure that there is ample time for specific questions from the audience.

*This course is approved for 2.0 BCRPA, and 2.0 PD NCCP Continuing Education Credits*
