Dr. Yelizarov completed his Medical Degree in Astrakhan Medical University, Russia in 1980. His interest in alternative medicine resulted in a diploma in Acupuncture in 1987. He has focused his practice on muscle and tendon strain injuries since 1994. His interest in the field resulted in the book ‘Treatment for muscle strain injuries and related conditions’ (Llumina Press, ISBN: 1-932303- 07-3) published in 2002.
The desire to enhance knowledge and treatment strategy made him go to University of BC, where he completed Master of Science in Human Kinetics. The knowledge of pathophysiology of muscle injuries and acupuncture helped Dr. Yelizarov successfully combine Western and Oriental approaches to acupuncture. His medical expertise is in pathophysiology of overuse injuries of musculoskeletal and neurological systems and response to electrical stimulation. The parameters of the electrical stimulation are differentiated with respect to the injury stage. The goal of each session is muscle strength, improvement in flexibility and reduction of stiffness.
Affiliation: Registered Acupuncturist of College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncturists of British Columbia, British Columbia Qualified Acupuncturists and Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Association, Registered member of the Canadian Association of Rehabilitation Professionals, Canadian Academy of Sport Medicine. He worked with Russia’s Olympic diving team in July 2012 and continue to work with them recently.
