Profile
Jessie is a registered clinical counsellor who offers sport psychology services, including mental health counselling and mental performance consulting, to adolescents and adults competing at provincial, university, national and international levels. She has worked at the Richmond Olympic Oval High Performance Centre and with multiple university athletic departments. Her experience involves working with athletes and teams in a variety of sports, including figure skating, gymnastics, rowing, speedskating, softball, athletics, soccer, hockey, basketball, volleyball, rugby, and swimming. Areas of focus often include performance anxiety, depression, motivation, confidence, goal setting, relationship difficulties, transitions, retirement and injury related concerns.
She adopts a collaborative and evidence-based approach to her counselling that is tailored to the needs and goals of each client depending on the situation presented. This approach helps clients develop their own resources to grow in understanding themselves, to work through areas they feel stuck and to better cope with the difficulties they are facing. Jessie draws from Emotion-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy.
She received her PhD in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, her MA in Counselling Psychology from Trinity Western University and her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Alberta. She is in the process of registering as a psychologist with the College of Psychologists of BC.
Jessie is a member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, Canadian Sport Psychology Association and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.
