Growing up in Coquitlam B.C., Ian has always been involved in health and fitness. A competitive athlete himself, who has faced his own health and fitness challenges, Ian has chosen a specialized career that comes naturally, which enhances his compassion and understanding for his patients. He is a local expert who is able to provide a rare combination of advanced training and long-term experience in sports acupuncture.
Ian is in his third season as an acupuncturist for the 2011 Grey Cup Champion BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. He has also been the team acupuncturist for the Coquitlam Senior ‘A’ Adanacs lacrosse team since 2000 and was featured in the Coquitlam Now newspaper during their 2001 Championship season. In addition, he provided acupuncture services for the 2010 Minto Cup Champion Coquitlam Junior Adanacs and was the team acupuncturist for the Vancouver Ravens professional lacrosse team for three seasons from 2001 to 2004.
Since May 2004, Ian has assisted Matt Callison, a leading international expert in the field of Sports Medicine Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, with the teaching of Sports Medicine Acupuncture© seminars in Western Canada and in the United States. Ian is now himself an instructor of these seminars, teaching in Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, Whistler and as far abroad as Holland.
From 2006 -2010, Ian Dunsmuir served VANOC (Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee) on the Medical Managers Team for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. This was the first time in the history of the Olympic Games that acupuncture was included as a treatment for Olympic athletes. Ian’s duties included manager of all Acupuncture Services for both Athlete’s Village Polyclinics (Whistler and Vancouver) and treatment provider to the athletes.
One of thechallenges we all face is the ability to create balance. We constantly juggle work, family and personal schedules with many other pressures. Ian strives to achieve balance in his life by valuing both work and leisure activities, spending time with his family, maintaining a regular exercise program including gym workouts, biking and running, and taking time throughout the year for camping trips, movies, reading and travelling. His commitment in his practice is to help you find or create balance for yourself.
