Profile
Dr. Wall offers sport and performance-focused mental health care services to help athletes achieve their performance goals while preserving their well-being. She is a vetted practitioner with the Canadian Centre for Mental Health and Sport.
Dr. Wall’s unique offering is the intersection of mental health care and sport performance. With training in counselling and sport science she is passionate about helping athletes reach their full potential through a person-centred approach.
As a Registered Psychologist (#2688) she offers individualized mental health support for adolescents and adults with a range of presenting concerns, including mood difficulties such as depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, burnout and stress management, life transitions, perfectionism, self-esteem, body image, meaning and purpose, and personal growth and understanding.
As a Mental Performance Consultant she helps athletes apply psychological principles towards their performance goals and life pursuits. The emphasis in working together may be proactive such as integrating or refining psychological skills (i.e., mindfulness practices, imagery, or arousal regulation) in one’s training regime. Or the emphasis may be remedial, focusing on specific challenges that are currently faced. Common concerns include managing nerves and dealing with pressure, motivation, confidence, recovering from mistakes, coach relationship difficulties, returning from injury and retirement from sport.
Dr. Wall has over 10 years of experience helping athletes who compete at regional, provincial and Olympic levels. She has worked with athletes and teams from a variety of sports including gymnastics, figure skating, dance, hockey, soccer, volleyball, basketball, swimming, track and field, speed skating, fastpitch, sailing and rowing. She was a competitive figure skater and professional figure skating coach. She also played university level rugby and captained the Canadian University Rugby Sevens Team at the FISU World University Games. Her love of participating in sport has continued over the years with coaching youth rugby and personal involvement in triathlons, trail running, golf, sailing and mountain biking.
Dr. Wall is a Registered Psychologist (#2688) with the College of Psychologists of BC and a professional member with the Canadian Sport Psychology Association and BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (RCC #10534). She completed her PhD in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia with a focus in sport psychology, her MA in Counselling Psychology (Trinity Western University) and BSc Kinesiology (University of Alberta). Her research interests include transitions in sport, coach-parent-athlete relationships, and athlete mental health and well-being.
Dr. Wall is providing virtual and in-person sessions at her office in North Vancouver. Her services are covered by most extended health plans. National team athletes and coaches are eligible for coverage through Game Plan.
