Profile
I have been a sports physiotherapist and manual therapist for 30 years. I graduated from the University of Western Ontario cum laude in 1993. I completed my FCAMPT (Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manual and Manipulative Therapy) certification in 1999, began teaching in the orthopedic division of the CPA in 2000, and also received my “Sports Physiotherapy Diploma” certification in 2008.
Over the last 30 years in my private practice orthopaedic physiotherapy practice, I have focused on mastering and teaching manual therapy techniques, as well as providing all levels of sports physiotherapy coverage, including treating various orthopaedic and sporting related injuries in the clinic and on the field. I was a competitive fast ball player for many years in my youth, and also now am very active in many activities, including women’s soccer league, mountain biking, road cycling, skiing XC and downhill, as well as strength and running work. I have competed in road cycling the Gran Fondo twice from Vancouver to Whistler and have provided bike treatment and bike fitting related services in clinic.
For high level sport physiotherapy work, I travelled internationally with the Women’s National Soccer program from 1999-2002 including working with the the full national team and also the youth development teams. I also worked and volunteered at numerous other high level sporting events, such as Figure Skating World’s in Vancouver, Canada Cup Fastball in Surrey, Short Track Speed Skating World Cup in 2009. Additionally, I was part of the Short Track Speed Skating medical team during the 2010 Olympics. I also covered the Women’s World Cup in Vancouver in 2012 held at BC place, working as sport physiotherapist to team Haiti.
Since the time that my kids have been playing sports, I have focused on coaching with their teams/organizations in the local community and enjoyed supporting the local sports culture and community. Through these avenues, I have been providing sport physiotherapy services on and off the pitch for high level youth soccer, track and field, as well as ultimate frisbee events in our local community and with local club teams. With the assistance of associate physiotherapists from my clinic, Body Works Sports Physiotherapy, I have also organized and provided volunteer physiotherapy coverage for a number of sporting events locally, such as running and golf charity events. Many events were delayed with COVID, but we were back in action recently covering the provincial boxing championships in November 2022 at Griffins Boxing in North Vancouver. So exciting to do this right in our own local community. I also have been involved in providing talks to the Intraining Sun Run groups in the past (prior to covid), as well as providing free information sessions to community groups on proper warm-up, stretching, strength and injury prevention to name a few.
I am a Senior Instructor with the Orthopedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, teaching advanced Orthopaedics and manual therapy techniques and clinical reasoning, with my teaching focusing primarily at level 2. I have also worked as a mentor to younger physiotherapists to help enhance various techniques and clinical reasoning, as well as to support the requirements for mentorship hours for their FCAMT and orthopaedic and sporting certifications.
I am a passionate and skilled sport physiotherapist and am happy to help you get your body working better so you can enjoy your sport as long as possible.
