Over 43,500 runners, walkers, and wheelchair division athletes braved the elements to complete the 35th Annual Vancouver Sun Run on Sunday, April 14. Not even a little inclement weather, including rain and hail, could dampen their spirits as participants crossed the finish line with big smiles relishing in their accomplishment.
2019 marked SportMedBC’s 24th year partnering with the Vancouver Sun Run to deliver our 13-week InTraining program in communities across the province. This year we had over 1,700 leaders and participants spread across 55 clinic locations throughout BC.
Making up one of the biggest corporate teams again this year and proudly sporting their red bandanas, our Aboriginal RunWalk Program corporate team had 177 participants from 18 communities across the province attend North America’s largest 10K running event.
SportMedBC will also be supporting over 200 ARW participants in the upcoming Times Colonist 10K in Victoria on April 28th and there are over 75 other ARW groups across the province who have completed the ARW program and are planning to attend and/or host a runwalk event in their community in the coming months.
We would like to congratulate all of the SportMedBC Aboriginal RunWalk and Vancouver Sun Run InTraining participants who completed their 13-week training programs leading up to the 2019 Vancouver Sun Run. You should all be very proud of your accomplishments, and for committing yourself to 13 weeks of training. We hope that it has helped you achieve your RunWalk goals, and that it will help you continue on your health & wellness journey.
Finally, thank you to everyone involved with the ARW and InTraining programs who made this day possible for their participants. Our programs wouldn’t be possible without the help of the many clinic coordinators, run leaders, and volunteers, who selflessly dedicate their time.
See you again in 2020!
RunWalk Team
