Upcoming SportSmart Workshop at Fortius Sport & Health!

SportMedBC has an exciting course coming soon to our new host site, Fortius Sport & Health

SportMedBC’s injury prevention and performance initiative, SportSmart, will be at Fortius Sport & Health on Wednesday, August 28th.

This two-hour workshop offers introductory safety and performance workshops designed to help parents, coaches and administrators understand how they can be key players in preventing injuries and facilitating the development of their children as athletes. Athletic Therapist Lauren Gavrailoff takes participants through a fast-paced, 90-minute workshop, covering:

• How to ensure players are properly prepared for activity

• How to warm-up and cool down efficiently and properly

• Shoulder, knee, foot and ankle specific injury prevention exercises and techniques

• Where to turn in the event of an injury to children

• Where to find the most up-to-date sport safety resources and tools

Lauren Gavrailoff is a Certified Athletic Therapist currently with Ossur Canada Inc as a Orthopedic Bracing Clinician / Clinical Sales. Graduating from the University of Manitoba Athletic Therapy Program with Honours in June 2011, Lauren’s worked with Canadian University basketball, hockey, football teams, and with professional football teams the BC Lions and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

As well, Lauren is an Assistant Athletic Therapist for Douglas College and teaches SportMedBC Sport Safety courses.
