Riders up to the Task in a Very "West Coast" RBC GranFondo Whistler

Cyclists from around the world braved the elements to complete the ninth edition of the RBC GranFondo Whistler this past weekend. Voted North America’s Best Gran Fondo, this year again lived up to expectations with over 4,500 riders making the 122km trek from Stanley Park to Whistler along the iconic Sea to Sky Highway.

The event had a true West Coast feel with spurts of sunshine, fog, wind, and (naturally) a little rain! Luckily, nothing could dampen the spirits of riders who celebrated their achievement with an after party in Whistler Plaza and musical performance by Nearly Neil and the Solitary Band.

SportMedBC was on hand at the finish line to greet MyFirstFondo and MyNextFondo clinic participants with a certificate for completing their 12-week training programs.

2018 marked the first year that SportMedBC worked with the RBC Gran Fondo to deliver a 12-week training program for beginner and intermediate riders. The program was a huge success with over 130 participants trained at 10 different clinic locations across the Lower Mainland. Led by expert riders, participants met with their groups for weekly training sessions throughout the summer, learning everything from proper rider etiquette and training techniques, to repairing a flat tire and the art of bicycle maintenance.

Thank you to all the MyFirstFondo and MyNextFondo clinic coaches, sweeps, and riders for a great summer of training. We hope to see you again next year!
