Well, today is the last day at rowing. It’s hard to believe!! Here we are at the finals…
Tuesday was not a great day at Shinyu for the Canadians. It was a miserable day weather-wise. Very smoggy, grey and wet. The worst day so far out there and it was our first competition day! It started to pour at the beginning of the first race. Steve had a lot of trouble with his grips on the oars and finished a far last in his heat. Caitlin and Pepito also finished last and the 4’s were fourth. It was a disappointing day all around. I had been biking up and down for the first time, so I was quite soaked. Our bus had to stop several times on the way home because the windows were too foggy and he had to wipe them down.We finally returned to the Village wet and tired. I did several treatments that night before having a hot shower and crashing into bed.
Yesterday was much better. The sun came out brilliantly and we could see mountains again for the first time in days. The weather turn-around was amazing! Steve had a much better race, but did not make it into the A final. Pepito and Caitlin again came last, but were happier with their performance. The 4’s had a great race and edged out the Brazilians to take second in their heat. They now qualify for the A final and will race for a medal today.
So I’m off to have lunch and they to Shinyu. Again, the sun is out and the sky is clear. I look forward to a great race day!!
