As we get ready for the Vancouver Sun Run, SportMedBC and the Vancouver Sun are featuring some Sun Run InTraining Leaders and Coordinators and their favourite trails and runs.
John Mramor is a SportMedBC area coordinator in Surrey and Langley.
“I started running in the 1990’s because running a marathon was on my ‘bucket list.’ After several 5 & 10K events, and a half-marathon, I completed a marathon! Now, Nordic Walking is big on my list!
My favourite run/walk is in Sunnyside Acres in South Surrey. One deep breath and you know you are in an urban forest! It’s fascinating to run in these magnificent surroundings accompanied by birds and the odd rabbit scurrying across the path.
There is peace and solitude here, and you feel one with nature as you move among the majestic cedar and fir trees.
Sunnyside Acres has everything from an obstacle free trail, to well groomed paths, to more rugged routes, along with a well-marked 5K “Heart Smart” route. There are many trail heads along 20th and 24th Avenue and 144th and 148th Street. On any one of these you will enjoy nature at its best.
The forest is ever-changing and every run throughout all four seasons of the year is a new experience!”
