Issues in Sports Psychology – April 20, 2011 at SFU Vancouver

The Issues in Sports Psychology presentation will focus on the field of applied sport psychology and the relationship between the traditional focus on performance and the more recent recognition of the importance of the clinical aspects of involvement in sport.

Specifically, Dr. David Cox (Chair of SportMedBC) will initially review issues in the area of performance enhancement as applied to individual and team sports competing at the elite level of sport. In this context it is not uncommon to identify psychological concerns that require clinical intervention.

Dr. Robert Ley will then discuss some of the problems presented by athletes in his clinical practice.
