SportMedBC's Aboriginal RunWalk Team will be attending the Tears to Hope relay June 21-22 in Terrace, the inaugural event dedicated to honour and memoralize those who lost their lives to violence along the Highway of Tears. The relay run will consist of one runner at a time from different Indigenous communities in the area carrying messages of hope to Terrace and will culminate in a community feast.
The first annual Tears to Hope Relay Run is the first step for the Tears to Hope Society to shine an even brighter light on the MMIWG. Their vision is to provide a healthy and safe community for Aboriginal women and girls, through inclusive activities that encourage health and wellness of the body and mind because ‘she is somebody’. The run itself will mirror the Indigenous way of transferring messages from village to village, using runners. Our runners will carry a deerskin scroll with a Message of Hope. This relay will include friends and family of those affected by the MMIWG, with the mission being to support the families and let them know that they are not alone. We invite all nations to stand with us, run with us as allies while we work together to end the violence against our women and girls.
