Walk This Way 2018 – Week 5
"It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that matters, in the end." Ursula K. Le Guin
Back to "work"?! What does that even mean? The time your spend walking this week will begin to gradually increase again. This week, be sure to focus on your technique: "Walk with attitude!" – These training sessions are no longer just a leisurely stroll! Consciously increase your stride length by extending the leg in front as you walk, planting that heel, and using a strong heel-toe action.
Try to use your arms when you walk – they should be bent at about 120 degrees, and should swing comfortably forward and back. If you begin to feel tired during your walk, consciously moving your arms in this way will set the pace, and your legs will follow.
This is the time – just over half way in the program – where negative thoughts often start to creep in. Sometimes they are doubts about your ability or your progress, and they can have a big impact on your feelings about yourself and your ability to accomplish your goals. These thoughts can be so powerful, and you need to address them specifically. This is especially the case when you put yourself down, criticize your past actions, doubt your abilities and expect failure. Negative thinking can damage your self-confidence and your ability to progress through the Walk This Way program. If you find yourself struggling in this way, just remember: You are here, you are strong, and you are working on bettering your health… one step at a time! You are capable of so much, and this is just the beginning of your journey towards good health, spirit, and fitness! Keep up the AWESOME work!
