Dan Olson in the Burnaby Now writes on Coquitlam’s Dustin Walsh who made it to Paralympic Games in Athens and finished just off the podium in 5th place – this year he will be competing in Beijing in both the 200 and 400 meters and doing it with a new running guide, Steve Walters.
As a blind runner, the Coquitlam athlete has achieved this goal the same way other international-level competitors have reached their pinnacle, through intense determination and a lot of sacrifices.
“We run with a tether joining us,” Walsh says of working with Walters. “My inside hand and his outside hand are connected, so it’s almost like a three-legged race that requires incredible synchronicity.”
