As the Vancouver Sun Run draws closer, SportMedBC and the Vancouver Sun are featuring some Sun Run InTraining Leaders and Coordinators and their favourite trails and runs.
Femina Fidai is a SportMedBC area coordinator on the North Shore.
“Running has altered my life. I was first exposed to the Sun Run Clinic 15 years ago. I joined to get in shape. Not only did I get fit, I formed friendships that have lasted over the years. I started as a participant, became a leader and clinic coordinator, and am now an Area Coordinator overseeing eight North Shore clinics!
Living on the North Shore, I’m surrounded by amazing trails. But my all-time favourite run is near my front door -the breathtaking Dundarave Seawalk. It’s a flat, wide, paved trail that stretches along West Vancouver’s scenic waterfront, from Dundarave Pier at 25th Street, all the way to Park Royal Shopping Centre.
The views of the Lions Gate Bridge, Mount Baker and Vancouver Island are spectacular. It’s a perfect run anytime of the day. You can see the cruise ships sailing by, along with the Rocky Mountaineer and its waving passengers.
At any given time, you’re able to see otters, seals, cranes, eagles and ducks – not to mention the grey whale I spotted last summer! The trail is well-marked, well-lit, and very safe.
My reward after my run is choosing which coffee shop to go to afterwards!”
