Team BC and SportMedBC are geared up for the Canada Summer Games! Featuring 16 sports, over 250 events and a major cultural festival, the Canada Summer Games welcome over 4,000 athletes and coaches and more than 20,000 visitors. Winnipeg is hosting the Games, which run from July 28th to August 13th with Team BC looking to build upon a third place finish in 2013.

The West Coast will be well represented this year with 354 athletes, 52 coaches, 27 managers and 22 mission staff making the trip from B.C. across the Prairies to challenge the country’s best. B.C. will hope to replicate the same success athletes enjoyed at the North American Indigenous Games in Toronto earlier this month, where the province came away on top of the overall medal standings.
In the years leading up to the Games, BC's finest young athletes are chosen by their Provincial Sport Organization using selection criteria and competition playdowns. As the best in their respective age, these competitors come to the Games having trained long hours to be among those selected to represent their respective province or territory.
Our athletes and coaches represent the province’s best and SportMedBC will be there ensuring they are well cared for. SportMedBC plays a vital role in the coordination and delivery of sport medicine and science services for Team BC, with our very own Safety & Event Services Manager, Philippe Saucier, acting as the team’s Medical Manager for the Games.
Working closely with the Chefs de Mission and Sport Branch, Philippe coordinates all aspects of the SportHealth Program and assists in the provision of performance enhancement services for coaches and athletes prior to and during the Games.
Team BC and its partners provide performance planning and science/medicine support services (such as functional screening, strength and conditioning, mental training, nutrition and drug education) to round out an athlete's preparation to compete, challenge coaches to create optimal training and competition environments, and train mission staff with skills and knowledge to support Team BC athletes and coaches.
