SportMedBC has been coordinating the event medical coverage for the Vancouver Sun Run each and every year since the very first race in 1985. Lynda Cannell, SportMedBC’s President and CEO, originally developed the medical coverage plan for the event and has been involved every step of the way since the beginning.
140 medical volunteers are stationed throughout the Sun Run course to handle any situation for the 50,000-plus participants.
“This year, there will be four medical tents along the Sun Run route: at Denman and Davie, Fourth and Fir, the finish line and Concord Place…
Medical personnel will also bike patrol the route and foot patrol Concord Place, where the final Sun Run party is being held. Volunteers range from emergency room physicians to high school students trained as Red Cross first responders.”
